Happy Spring Festival!

The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important traditional festival in China. It marks the beginning of a new lunar year and is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. One of the most significant aspects of the Spring Festival is the reunion dinner held on New Year’s Eve. Dumplings, shaped like ancient Chinese gold ingots, represent wealth, while fish signifies surplus and abundance. Rice cakes are eaten to wish for a higher position or better life in the coming year.

Another highlight of the festival is the giving and receiving of red envelopes, or "hongbao." Elders give these small red packets filled with money to younger generations as a gesture of blessing and good luck. The color red is considered auspicious in Chinese culture, representing joy, vitality, and prosperity.

During the festival, people also decorate their homes with couplets, paper cuttings, and lanterns. Red decorations are everywhere, creating an atmosphere of festivity and celebration. The Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the lunar month, marks the end of the Spring Festival celebrations. People light lanterns, solve riddles written on them, and eat tangyuan (sweet glutinous rice balls), symbolizing unity and harmony.
